Hudson River: Meditation/Mediation, a project conceived by Daniel Rothbart is a series of performance vignettes, which took place on the banks of the Hudson River, 9/23/06 as part of The Peekskill Project of the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, New York.
Three large metal vessels were installed along the riverbank and invited artist participants sound the vessels and improvise in a manner of their own choosing. The performance was complete after each participant sounds the vessel a second time.
Meditation/Mediation examines the concave spaces of art through collaborative performance vignettes that "fill" metal vessels with transient meanings. Through performance work, artists explored themes related to the Hudson River, ecology, spirituality, waterways as metaphor, and water as concrete and symbolic life force in the world.
Hudson River: Meditation/Mediation
is one phase of a much broader work in progress that will be presented and continued in other contexts produced by The Hieros Gamos Project curated by Lisa Paul Streitfeld.
